What is accessibility?
Products, services, and environments are accessible when as many people as possible can use them on their own, regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities, and without requiring any assistance. According to the German federal accessibility law (formal name: Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz, short form: BFSG), a service can only be considered accessible as long as it matches the following criteria: findable, accessible, and usable for persons with disabilities in a common manner, without special difficulty, and, in principle, without any assistance from another person. Thus, accessibility enables equal access to information and functions. However, the benefits go far beyond this aspect: Any user will benefit from something that is understandable and easy to use.
How is XING enhancing accessibility?
We have optimized the usability of our app and website in several areas. In accordance with BFSG requirements, we have prioritized the pages that encourage the conclusion of consumer contracts, as well as any related identification, authentication, security, and payment functions. However, this did and does not seem enough to us – our goal is to make XING as accessible as we possibly can. Examples of improved accessibility include better support for screen readers, as well as enhanced contrast optimization. We take care to enable our user interface to respond to individual needs in conjunction with the user devices' operating system. In our texts, the emphasis we put on clarity and comprehensibility is even stronger now. Link texts, for instance, are formulated in a way that provides an immediate understanding of the link destination.
What accessibility standards does XING follow?
For our platform, we adhere to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). The BFSG also refers to the WCAG. Our goal is to fully comply with their requirements.
What can I do to improve accessibility on XING myself?
Our platform adapts to the system settings of your device. If you configure the device according to your needs, you will also encounter fewer obstacles on XING.
